Day 15 – Raw Diet

June 16, 2009

I am HALF WAY!!!  Quite exciting, glad I made it this far.

Today was a good day, got in a good exercise time, and energy was decent and stable most of the day.  Still having some gastric issues, nothing serious, but nothing that is improving yet.

I ate another banana today, still ’sorta’ like them, I think I can eat them going forward (at least in plain form).  That seems small to most, but they are such an easy and convenient food, would be nice to enjoy them or at least be able to use it as an emergency back up.

I did do sushi again, I am just feeling a bit better when I get my protein intake up.  Its still raw, and I am not eating a lot at a time, just enough to kill my cravings.  As a matter of fact, I only ate half of what I purchased tonight, will do a small bit in the AM for breakfast I think.

Exercise was good today, but I do feel my endurance was a bit low.  I was hungry when I started, and while I was able to push through, I did feel more tired afterward then I thought was normally warranted.  Also in relation to the sushi, I find that my heavier workouts seem to drive my protein cravings up ten fold.  There is a lot of discussion about protein on a vegan or raw diet, and yes, I am getting a decent amount in my veggies without meat, averaging usually around 40-50grams a day when I do not eat sushi.  That is quite a drop from my prior diet though, likely by more then half, so that might be why I am having trouble with that craving in particular.

My meal plan went as follows today:

  • Breakfast – Green Smoothie (Cucumber, spinach, avocado, yellow pepper)
  • Snacks – Grapefruit, apricots, cacao nibs, goji berries, raspberries
  • Lunch – Green Juice (cucumber, spinach, bok choy, celery, lemon, carrots)
  • Afternoon snack – Banana, handful of grapes
  • Dinner – Raw salmon & tuna, romaine lettuce with avocado

My nutrition totals were as follows:

Calories – 1495

  • 44% from Carbohydrates
  • 38% from Fat
  • 18% from Protein

Weigh in this morning had me at 105lbs (actually pretty close to 106lbs), same for the last 7 days, so 6lbs lost in 15 days (started at 111lbs).

The weight stability is intriguing to me.  At first, I might be suspicious that I have eaten low calories for so many days now, that maybe I am stalling my metabolism a bit.  BUT, on the flip side, I am developing tone and muscle like crazy right now.  Part of it is that I am leaning down, and muscle is just more visible, but on the other side, its quite obvious in some areas like my biceps/triceps, I am seeing drastic improvement.  I haven’t been working out that much, especially in regards to strength training, so this is interesting.  My husband has noticed it as well, so its definitely not just my imagination.

So at this point, my weight might be the same, but I am pretty positive I am gaining muscle and leaning down my fat percentage still.  I do not have the tools to measure, but I took photos at the start, and hoping it will be obvious after 30 days.

15 days down, hoping the next 15 are a bit easier after I have gotten through the major detox and learning curve period now.  Ready for it, I am truly interested in seeing the most I can out of a 4 week switch to this lifestyle.
