Day 12 to 16 – Running

May 7, 2009

I am back!!  After some PC issues and no time to spend fixing them, I had a bit of a delay getting back online.  So here is a catch up post on the running challenge.

Day 12 – Missed (super bummed, busy and bad day, moving past it)

Day 13 – 16 Minutes complete as scheduled, 20 minutes of strength training, stretching

Day 14 – 16 Minutes complete as scheduled, stretching

Day 15 – 17 Minutes complete as scheduled, 20 minutes of strength training, stretching

Day 16 – 17 Minutes complete as scheduled, stretching

I am over half way done with the 30 days, it is FLYING by!!

I had a realization today……I ran for 17 minutes straight……wow.  Its not much for some folks, but for me, that is super huge.  I am proud of that, I am progressing right along.

I am a bit sore, but I am careful to stretch before, and much more afterward.  I do a lot of yoga poses, deep joint stretches, so far I am holding up decently.  No pain outside of the bit of muscle soreness which really only comes out say if I go up stairs and such.  The legs are getting a workout, but not so much that I think there will be a problem with the 30 day schedule.

Here is a catch up of my times and distances with photos:

Day 13 – 5.1 laps and 16 minutes

Day 14 – 5 laps and 16 minutes

Day 15 – 5.4 laps and 17 minutes

Day 16 – 5.4 laps and 17 minutes

I have pretty much dropped the intervals at this point, and am focusing purely on the ‘zone’.  I concentrate on breathing, relaxing, and finding a rhythm when I run.  I cover up my time on the treadmill, and just try to get into a groove.  Its a battle, that is for sure, but it does seem to be getting slightly easier.  I am liking this approach over the intervals.  Might not be as much physical gains, but I am learning more and more its all about the mental first and foremost in this running world.
Day 12 through 16 – complete
