Day 12 – Raw Diet

June 13, 2009

I am officially ready to find that part of my brain that is responsible for cravings, and banish it for the next two weeks.  Seriously, enough already!

Today was a rough one.  It was all I could do to not run to the cafeteria and buy a bag of potato chips, or bar of dark chocolate.  Course, it would appear that my normal cravings have been amped up by female hormones at the moment, which I guess would also explain my weight holding for the last few days.

This is normally a bad time for me in regards to food, hunger, and cravings on any normal month, but being on raw, it was like I had super senses all day.  I could smell every one’s food at work around me, hear bags of food being opened, candy wrappers being crumpled, I had food focus super powers.  Needless to say, I had trouble accomplishing even simple tasks.

Deep breath, this shall pass.

My meal plan went as follows today:

  • Breakfast – Green Smoothie (Cucumber, spinach, mixed baby greens, avocado, tomato)
  • Snacks – Grapefruit, apricots, pineapple, raspberries, cacao nibs, goji berries
  • Lunch – Green Juice (Orange pepper, carrots, celery, spinach, lemon)
  • Afternoon snack – Flax crackers, Almond/coconut cookie (when I came home ready to toss vegetables out the window)
  • Dinner – Raw salmon & white tuna, big salad (spinach, romaine, tomato, mushrooms, avocado)

My nutrition totals were as follows:

Calories – 1515

  • 43% from Carbohydrates
  • 44% from Fat
  • 13% from Protein

Weigh in this morning had me at 105lbs, same for the last 4 days, so 6lbs lost in 12 days (started at 111lbs).

The hormonal changes probably explain the weight remaining the same even with the lower calories, but not a big deal overall since I am not really focused on weight loss.

I did eat raw fish again this evening, but it was the only way I could see surviving without cheating tonight.  I was craving protein and meat so much I did not know what to do.  I did not eat very much meat, just enough to help my stomach settle which had some hypoglycemic symptoms this afternoon.  Usually by increasing my protein and fat intake I have always been able to get the hypoglycemia under control, which I have had a harder time to do on raw.  I am a bit surprised that the sugar imbalances creeped up, but I did have more yesterday then usual with a fruit smoothie after my workout.  That might have been enough to cause today’s issues.

Another deep breath, I made it through today.  I am almost halfway through the challenge, I still believe I can accomplish this.
