If you ever want free therapy sessions, de-clutter your home. Seriously, its like a wonder drug.
I am currently in the process of cleaning out some ‘hobbies’ in the basement and it has been great. Also spent a bit of time in the closets, in the kitchen, just cleaning a few things out here and there. I have been using Freecycle like crazy, LOVE IT.
If there is anything of decent value, Craigslist is my next choice. Although a lot of stuff ends up on Freecycle purely because dealing with logistical headaches for 10 dollars on Craigslist just doesn’t seem worth it anymore. I have met some nice people there, some interesting folks, but it seems that a good deal of them lack scheduling, planning, or reasonable communication skills.
Take for example vehicle judgment. I ALWAYS provide measurements on every ad where it is relevant, but people do not seem to understand that solid objects do not miraculously shrink just because you have a Geo Metro. I have put up ‘its REALLY BIG’ in bold letters for furniture pieces, and we once ended up delivering an item in our truck because ‘REALLY BIG’ apparently meant ‘perfect for minivan, I will just take out the stroller’. Or the thought of putting a glass aquarium to float loose in the bed of a pickup truck, always a wise choice.
All the same, clearing things out feels really good, simple as that. If I have future goals of traveling more and living outside of the country for months at a time, I need some serious downsizing of my possessions. Might as well get cracking on that.
Oh, and what I am selling right now will buy me several months of climbing sessions, SUPER bonus!
De-clutter….it is good for your health!!
